AFTERGLOW: TRANSMEDIALE FESTIVAL FOR MEDIA ART IS ON

AFTERGLOW: TRANSMEDIALE FESTIVAL FOR MEDIA ART IS ON

This year’s Transmediale is on the search for the afterglow in our digital world: a place between Big Brother and big data, our transparent virtual ego, the promised land of high tech and electronic waste. Thus afterglow can be seen as a metaphor of two opposing poles of our mediatised lives, and an allegory of our current state of being between new technologies that are updated the moment they’re released. You will have the chance to listen to lectures, attend screenings and join the exhibition on utopian varieties of this afterglow until Sunday. Among the referees are US documentary film maker Larua Poitras, Jacob Appelbaum, a computer security expert, and geographer and artist Trevor Paglen; together they will enter the interface of hacking, activism and art. This Sunday Transmediale will come to an end – at least for this year – with “Lumière”, the new laser and audio show by Robert Henke.
