WALK THE LINE: BAUMKRONENPFAD BEELITZ

WALK THE LINE: BAUMKRONENPFAD BEELITZ

A golden fall can be more picturesque than the nicest summer’s day. The sun is yellow, the sky blue, and nature’s color palette transcends from yellow to green to brown. It’s these kind of days where leaving Berlin and going west is a good idea, past Potsdam, to Beelitz. Amidst ruins, a 40-meter tall tower stands, boasting views of the Berlin television tower from its viewing platform. Around 20 meters below, the newly-built Baumkronenpfad is a walkway across the treetops, leading past villas halfway overgrown by nature. Signs with plant descriptions mark the way, while the mind trails off to imagine what this place might have once looked like. Steeped in history, Beelitz was built in 1898 as the grounds of a military hospital used during the first and second World Wars. Today, visitors benefit from endless views of golden autumn ground, breathing in crisp air that still has something of a healing quality to it. (Text: Verena Schwarz)
