ELISABETH RUSHE RECOMMENDS: HALLESCHES HAUS

ELISABETH RUSHE RECOMMENDS: HALLESCHES HAUS

Hallesches Haus is a newly opened general store and restaurant by Michelle Casciolo, Oliver Cayless and Jillian May, under the awesome arches of the historic building “Postamt 61″. Step out at Hallesches Tor, then step inside HAHA to plunder excellently curated home goods. There’s joyful terrariums, household tools to ensure those chores get done, and Pendleton blankets to ward off the harshest Berlin Winter. Bask in the artfully stocked store with a beautifully made coffee and just try to resist the freshly made in-house sweets and savoury eats, as well as granola and preserves by Black Isle Bakery. While Hallesches Haus has opened its store and coffee bar, the fully-fledged restaurant will be ready in June – though chef Joe Parenti (Zuni, California) is already on board serving up small lunch plates. Stop by to give your local general storekeepers a warm welcome and get a taste of things to come. Why not make a day of it with the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek across the road. (Text & Photo: Elizabeth Rushe)
