Schillerkiez in Neukölln is an area to watch. Currently many store fronts there are being turned into little shops and cafés. For example in Herrfurthstrasse Markus Dimitrius just opened Mama Kalo. The trained chef worked at the restraurant “Norbert” in Prenzlberg prior to becoming his own boss. At Mama Kalo he serves homemade round Flammkuchen, quiches, soups and cakes; the dishes are between 3 to 8€. You’ll receive welcoming service by the chef himself so you not only find yummy food here but nice atmosphere as well. This new spot is my favorite addition to this Neukölln neighborhood. You can also get food to go which makes this place noteworthy for the upcoming spring/summer season since it’s close to Tempelhof park.
