In my experience the general perception of Greek cuisine abroad is sadly formed by Greek flag colored taverns and food that fulfills a cliché than allows you to experience the country’s authentic flavors. Throughout the past years of crisis, Greeks have increasingly developed a renewed interest in the agriculture and the gastronomic heritage of their homeland; and are now determined to promote the Greek culinary treasures in order to give them a place they deserve. Rises Delicacies, which opened in November 2013 in Berlin-Mitte, is a great illustration of such endeavors. In a rustic chic interior, it offers products in beautifully designed packages, exclusively supplied by small-scale producers and manufacturers: such as legumes, numerous kinds of olive oils, spices, various kinds of handmade pastas, as well as high-end products such as Bottarga (the Mediterranean caviar) and truffles collected by specially trained dogs in Northern Greece.
