LET’S POLISH! EXPLORING IDENTITY THROUGH DESIGN

LET’S POLISH! EXPLORING IDENTITY THROUGH DESIGN

What does it mean to be Polish in the world today? Explore some aesthetic suggestions tonight (13.7) at the openingof “Let’s Polish! Design from London, Paris, Vienna, Berlin and Warsaw” — an exhibition at the Polish Institute of Berlin exploring the layered question of national identity through industrial and product design. Three emerging design studios with Polish roots, scattered across Europe — from Paris and Vienna to Warsaw via Berlin — were invited to showcase designs on the topic and select another studio to do the same. Chmara.rosinke chose Kosmos Project, Maria Jeglińska suggested Krzysztof Pyda and Marta Bakowski picked Jan Hendzel. All works — from chairs to ceramics — are linked in their experimental, critical approach to representing Polish identity on an aesthetic level. So what do they reveal? You’ve got until 17 September to discover the answers for yourself. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Marta Bakowski, Turczynska-for-Culture-PL)
