MERKEZI/MERCOSY — FAMILY DINING, DANCING & MORE

MERKEZI/MERCOSY — FAMILY DINING, DANCING & MORE

Of course I drove past it at first. Naturally, carefully and lovingly prepared food is not advertised in big letters. Try the doorknob on the metal gate — it works. Then knock on the door inside. Merkezi is no ordinary restaurant; no temporary location with fancy free food nor is it a charity project. It’s friends cooking for friends, for the fun of it. Their menu is different every time and all based on donations. Hosted by Johannes Budweg and Julia Duboski, a long table extends in an airy white space that is not only a dining room but also a gallery space. While upstairs is all about cooking, downstairs brings organic sounds from a DJ, warming up to the after-dinner-party. Something else worth trying: a Korean pop-up restaurant at their sister bar Mercosy is in the plan for the next two Saturdays. (Text:Sascha Bente / photos: Rachel Israela)
