HOLLY HENDRY EXPLORES CONSUMPTION WITH SCULPTURE

For her first solo exhibition in Berlin, British sculptural artist Holly Hendry presents a brand-new body of work made specifically for the gallery space at Arratia Beer: “For a Skeleton to Hang Soft Tissues On”. Dealing with everything internal and external terms of the human body, Hendry’s sculptures are shaded in pastel tones of green and pink, intermixed with ghastly whites and grays, wood and even metal. The textures and colors come together to give the whole exhibition a medicinal feel, paying homage to where she drew inspiration from: previously ingested, then recovered, objects found in Philadelphia’s The Mütter Musuem‘s collection of swallowed objects. Focusing on the theme of bodily consumption, using layers and lines, the 27 year old artist is tapped as a rising star in the world of sculptural art, and we can see why.
