SCHWULES MUSEUM* HOSTS A TRANSCULTURAL LOOK AT GENDER

How many stories can a single letter contain? A group show opening tonight at the Schwules Museum*, titled “ğ – queer forms migrate” explores cross-cultural exchanges between LGBTQIA+ communities in Turkey and Germany through a linguistic lens. Curators Emre Busse and Aykan Safoğlu have invited a host of artists including Ayşe Erkmen, Viron Erol Vert and Mehtap Baydu to examine the intersectionality of gender and cultural identities across a range of media. The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of lectures, performances and workshops. If you’re not already familiar with the Schwules Museum*, this nuanced show, held in its gallery, promises to be an exciting introduction to the Charlottenburg institution. Established in 1985, the museum is today one of the most significant establishments for research into LGBTQIA+ histories worldwide. And what does the letter “ğ” have to do with all of this? The answers await upon your visit. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Artworks (clockwise from left): Taner Ceylan / Cihangir Gümüştürkmen / Nilbar Güreş)
