Finally, the weekend! I don’t know how you feel, but after a long work week I’m craving a bit of nature and lots of time with my friends. Instead of just meeting for a quick drink, it would be nice to actually do something together. A round of mini golf might be exactly the thing. Set in the middle of greenery and still reachable from central Berlin via the S25, you’ll find Minigolf am Insulaner. Having been around since 1964, Frank Terhorst has been running the facility since last year (2025), having already taken over Hertzberg Golf and the mini golf course at Stadtpark Steglitz. A complete makeover? Not an option here. Instead, the team deliberately embraces the existing 1960s charm: rustic wooden furniture, complemented by upcycled elements that give the place its own distinct character. In every corner you’ll discover little details: beer crates mounted on posts, or the signature red chairs that are scattered throughout and always ready for a break. Projects like a small grandstand made from old sauna furniture from a Berlin public pool show how the team at Minigolf am Insulaner likes to combine nostalgia with new purpose. Mini golf, of course, is at the heart of it all: shaded lanes, small tunnels, different levels, and plenty of greenery come together to form a small landscape of their own. And when you need a break, the blue wooden kiosk at the entrance awaits with grilled sandwiches, coffee, and cold drinks. If you want to continue your day after a round, combine your visit with a walk to the observatory or cool off in the nearby summer pool at the Insulaner.
And although much of the place is designed with nostalgia in mind, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for new influences. With events like “Soul in One”, a vinyl DJ format, the team regularly brings music to the course. They’re also planning to give up-and-coming bands a stage. Primarily geared toward weekends, the mini golf course is open from Thursday to Sunday. But if you want to come during the week, you can also rent the space for private games and compete without interruption. So when the question comes up again of what to do this weekend, Minigolf am Insulaner might just be the answer.
