I love museum stores. While I wander through an exhibition, thinking how I’ll never be able to afford the Gursky for my living room, everything suddenly becomes possible as I reach the museum store — the colorful mix of coffee table books, eclectic postcards, and all the beautiful things in between. And the Fotografiska store is one of the best. It’s regularly curated anew, and because there’s rarely as much demand for beautiful things as there is before Christmas, I paid it a visit. Surrounded by beautiful things, I ask myself who I want to give presents to, my friends and family, or maybe just myself? The selection immediately puts me in a state of desire. A perfume that smells like “dark vinyl”? Need. A hand-threaded pearl necklace with small fruits? Need. A candle that looks like a sugared tart? Why not? One afternoon in the Fotografiska store and I’ve thrown my Christmas wish list overboard, rewritten it and ticked it all off.
