From all-night Spätis to restaurants that never close, Berlin has a fair claim to being a 24/7 city. But if you need to go to the pharmacy it’s a different story: if you’re sick on a Sunday or need cough syrup after 7pm, you’re in for a long search for an all-hours chemist. Luckily, some enterprising Berliners have come up with a smartphone-based solution in the form of Mayd, a pharmacy app which delivers medicines and health and beauty products right to your door. Though not strictly 24/7, the app is available every day from 8 in the morning to midnight – including weekends – saving you from those late-night hunts for medical supplies. Launched in October 2021, the Berlin-based platform works just like the grocery delivery apps you might be familiar with: you select what you want, tap “order” and your items will be delivered from a local pharmacy by bike in around 30 minutes. The selection features around 2000 items, including all the usual non-prescription medicines, from aspirin to contact lens fluid. Also available are cosmetics from pharmacy brands like La Roche-Posay and Vichy – ideal if you have forgotten to stock up on your favorite day cream. And in case you were wondering if this convenience costs more: delivery with the app is free of charge. Healthcare and self-care has never been so carefree.
