As soon as you take your first step onto a climbing wall, all of your thoughts and daily busyness fade into the background. This vertical meditation can be found at a place you might not know existed: Magic Mountain, a stone’s throw from Gesundbrunnen station. A climbers’ haven since 2002, the hall offers around 300 different routes for both top rope and lead climbers, with walls reaching 15m high. In good weather, you can head out to the attached garden to climb, boulder or simply dangle in a hammock under the blue sky. For colder days, a large indoor bouldering area plus fitness equipment and a sauna are bound to keep you occupied before you finish up with a well-deserved drink at the Klettercafé. Trial climbing sessions offer an introduction to the sport for absolute beginners, while the colorful hall’s relaxed atmosphere and mixed crowd ensure a friendly welcome. Looking for a climbing partner? Head to the handy meet-up point and pick up a friend to ascend with. Time to take the leap! (Text & Photos: Ramona Razaghmanesh)
