BODY UNCONSCIOUS: CLOTHES BETWEEN FASHION AND ART

BODY UNCONSCIOUS: CLOTHES BETWEEN FASHION AND ART

Art, culture, and fashion are interrelated and have a constant influence on each other. Designer Nhu Duong wants to express this idea in her store, Space 31. Here, she sells her own creations along with those of other designers, each time turning her space into something like an exhibition – as is the case with her current event, Body Unconscious. Until March 31, 2018, a carefully curated selection of vintage pieces by Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Tommy Hilfiger, Maison Margiela, Jean Paul Gaultier, and other legendary fashion houses will be available for purchase. What these designers share is an opposition to classification based on body and gender stereotypes, articulated through their use of unique shapes and lines. Their definition of beauty is far removed from the usual ideals. The clothes – whether they are high fashion or retro 90s – are, therefore, no longer mere articles, but rather wearable art. The selection of the items on display regularly changes during the course of the exhibition. Space 31’s Instagram account lets you stay up to date on upcoming events.
