BONANZA CAFÉ GENDARMENMARKT — COFFEE PROS BRING THEIR BREWS TO THE HEART OF MITTE

BONANZA CAFÉ GENDARMENMARKT — COFFEE PROS BRING THEIR BREWS TO THE HEART OF MITTE

There’s no doubt Gendarmenmarkt is one of Berlin’s most beautiful places. But the square is home not just to historic architecture but a great cup of coffee too since Bonanza set up shop here in May 2020. The newest of the coffee roaster’s three locations, the cafe has an elegant feel, from the small, sunny terrace out front to its marbled interior complete with leather seating and a shiny chrome coffee bar. As you would expect from Bonanza, the star of the show is the coffee: a choice of five roasts awaits, including the Sasaba from Guji in Ethiopia with notes of chocolate, berry and biscuit for a fruity-smooth brew. The must-have for the summer is the iced cappuccino, which is unique to this shop and made with delicate, cold foam. Pair it with a croissant or Kouign-amann cake courtesy of Albatross (Mon-Wed) or Salon Sucré (Thu-Sun) and you’ve got the perfect quick bite – though with views of the Konzerthaus and sounds from the Hanns Eisler music school as your backdrop you might want to stay just that bit longer… (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: Ramona Razaghmanesh)
