In April 2015 a quaint café, No.58 Speiserei, opened in Neukölln’s Schillerkiez. It’s a little place, but its two rooms have a charm that could comfort even the most lonely. The café offers anything you could ever want: Bonanza Coffee, groceries from Berlin and beyond (delivered by Markthalle Neun), and delicious bread and eggs. The vegetarian and partly vegan menu offers avocado chocolate bread, cucumber-pear-apple juice, pear and rum cake, yoghurt with fresh fruits, bircher muesli, rhubarb and vanilla compote, and Styrian egg specialties. All this might sound over the top, but in fact the café is laid-back and friendly. Their dishes are homemade and everything is prepared fresh. There’s even a range of gluten free dishes. Last but not least, No.58 Speiserei serves my favorite beer, Brlo’s pale ale. The interior is exceptional, which is not surprising since it was designed by Theresa and Sarah. This duo warmly welcome their guests, usually with the help of their dog Loki who deserves a recommendation of his own. (Text: Clemens Schick / Photo: Janar Siniloo)
