Berlin’s best ramen noodle joint is among the most authentic Japanese restaurants in town, and ranks high on my personal favorites. And it looks like I’m not the only one, since the original Cocolo in Mitte is pretty much packed the minute it opens. In order to meet the demand, the owners opened up a “big” little sister restaurant in Kreuzberg back in June of 2013; with more indoor and outdoor seating with a great patio facing the canal. You’ll find all of your favorite dishes here and more. In addition to their original ramen made with homemade noodles, appetizer and drink menu, they offer lunch at this location with various donburi (rice bowl dish) like oyako-don and gyu-don. My favorite starter is a cocktail made with grapefruit halves, which you press yourself, with a glass of shochu on the rocks – it’s amazingly refreshing! (Text & photos: Sven Hausherr)
