DILEKEREI — SUMPTUOUS CAKES INSPIRED BY ENGLISH TEA PARTIES

DILEKEREI — SUMPTUOUS CAKES INSPIRED BY ENGLISH TEA PARTIES

Exploring Wedding’s hidden nooks is getting ever sweeter: Tucked between Gesundbrunnen and Bornholmer Str. you’ll find Dilekerei, a small café named after its owner, Dilek Topkara. Carefully chosen Biedermeier-style furnishings complement the interior’s endearing “tea time” elements, which serve as a reminder of the time Topkara spent in England, where the trained nutritionist discovered baking for herself. The delectable sweet treats she whips up include traditional Victoria sponge, red velvet cupcakes, poppy seed “Gugelhupf” and rose cake. The dollop of jam that is served with the cheesecake is handmade from fruit grown in her parents’ garden, and she sources her hazelnuts from her relatives in Turkey. Besides coffee, Topkara also offers freshly-brewed British tea specialties. In the display case sit heavenly multi-tier cakes which appear as edible works of art, garnished with pearls and fruit. In addition to the selection found in her café — which is only open on weekends — Topkara also bakes cakes made to order. Her customers can expect an individualized result which is almost too beautiful to eat. The native Schöneberger baker often makes personalized wedding cakes, which tell the story of the brides and grooms from around the world. This little café even delivers beyond Wedding, and out to other corners all around the city. (Text: Eva Biringer / Fotos: Dilekerei)
