WOODLAND WINTER HIKE — A LAKESIDE TRIP AROUND STORKOWER SEE TO WENDISCH RIETZ

The lakeside path around the Storkower See lake is a wonderful destination, particularly during the cold winter months. The lake is easy to reach by public transportation, is known for its excellent air quality and has dense forests all around. The hike starts in Storkow. From Reichenwalder Straße, leave the town by heading east. Behind the “Alter Weinberg” pub, follow the Knüppeldamm in the direction of the lake and hike along the eastern shore via Wolfswinkel towards Dahmsdorf. A detour to the old church and the rest area at the beach is worthwhile. On nice winter days, the sun shines impressively over the western shore. It’s quite a special atmosphere. The route continues directly along the lake to the south towards Wendisch Rietz, where you can eat, linger at the harbor or go to the sauna. For the more ambitious, it’s worth taking a detour to the nature trail at Scharmützelsee, where you can enjoy the sunset. The route is 15km long and can be completed in three to four hours. All in all, it’s an easy hike on comfortable lakeside and forest paths. From the train station at Wendisch Rietz, a regional express will bring you back home to the city.
