AN ALL-DAY PROGRAM OF SPATIAL SOUND — SUMMER OF MUSIC AT MONOM STUDIOS

AN ALL-DAY PROGRAM OF SPATIAL SOUND — SUMMER OF MUSIC AT MONOM STUDIOS

Can a recording of a piece of music ever be as good as – or even better than – hearing it live? After listening to a performance in spatial sound venue Monom, you’ll be convinced that it’s possible. Located in a cavern-like space deep in the Funkhaus complex on the north side of the Spree, this speaker-filled room hosts audio experiences that are guaranteed to give you goosebumps. This Saturday (11.06.2022), Monom’s 57 omnidirectional speakers will be surrounding audiences with a line-up of classical and electronic music for Summer of Music: Vol I. The event is the first in a special summer series and includes four performances, both live and recorded. A concert by violinist Rakhi Singh will feature classical works for strings and electronics that were originally staged in London in 2021, with composers including Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon and Alex Groves. The space will also play excerpts of recordings of “Mensch, Music! #3 – Hotspot Earth”, a special Earth Day concert by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) conducted by Vladimir Jurowsk. Each session also includes a program of immersive sound installations.

You can enjoy the sounds standing, sitting or – for the ultimate sensory treat – lying down as you gaze at Monom’s dramatic concrete ceiling. There are four slots to pick from, though the 16h and 21h30 sessions are particularly recommended as they feature Rakhi Singh live on the violin. Kicking things off will be three hours of “Interactive Experiments” while finishing up the day is a live set by Berlin-based producer Oliver Klostermann with drinks from the bar. It’s up to you which parts of the program you attend but whichever you go for, you’re promised the same: a dazzling, dreamy aural experience.
