H20 ILLUSION — WATERBOARDING AS AN ART PERFORMANCE

H20 ILLUSION — WATERBOARDING AS AN ART PERFORMANCE

Tonight the Studio at Checkpoint Charlie will be hosting a vernissage that goes by the name of “Die performative Postmoderne als Ausdruck moderner Austerität im Zeitalter der Prekarisierung Edition 1 – Illusion H2O”. We’ll spare you the translation and make it brief: it’s a group show and among the artists are Leila Pazooki and Iman Rezai whose works are based on water as medium of power. Rezai will present a waterboarding performance; waterboarding is the so-called form of “white torture” in which water is poured over the face of an immobilized person, causing to experience the sensation of drowning. Waterboarding was supposedly first used during the Spanish Inquisition and recently by the US. To see or better yet feel what this method entails, you’re invited – at your own risk – to participate throughout the exhibition until December 6. For those who are not so keen on bodily experiments, there will be more art to see and unplugged music to listen to – it’s an art show after all.
