Although I’ve lived, worked and stayed in Neukölln many times, I tend to visit similar places; nearer to Hermannplatz, or towards the Landwehr canal. However, recently I have been discovering the delights of Rixdorf, and in particular one restaurant on Böhmischer Platz; Hallmann & Klee. Run by Sarah Hallmann and Frizzi Klee, two talented German chefs who decided to branch out and begin their own joint venture; it had been open for less than two weeks when we visited in April. However, the chefs have waited many months to renovate the space they currently inhabit; a large, airy corner with beautiful windows, fresh wooden floors and a view into the magic of the kitchen. The food is original, smart and perfectly prepared, with options such as a vegetarian dish with smoky roasted and pureed potato, marinated radish, roasted rough mustard and wild herbs. The baking is equally as delicious, with some French-inspired desserts such as a coffee, chocolate, cocoa and sesame opera cake, and a rhubarb meringue pie that fell apart in our mouths. If that doesn’t convince you, then try a morning coffee with views onto the cherry blossom trees — not to be missed. (Text: Antonia Harris / Photo: Daniel Farò)
