Following the announced closure of Watergate and Renate last month, news outlets and Reddit threads are once again full of talk of “Clubsterben”. But beyond the static, the Berlin nightlife scene remains remarkably resilient – as the Tag der Clubkultur makes clear. This “day” of dance floors and DJs actually stretches to a whole week (3–10.10), with a program of 80 talks, parties and workshops all over town. Tag der Clubkultur is also a prize, awarding cash to 40 clubs which – often without fanfare – help safeguard creativity and youth culture in the city. One such place is Zur Klappe, a rave cave near Mehringdamm that will be opening its intimate floor for an open decks event by collective Blanq slate (tonight, 03.10 from 20h). Meanwhile, over at Strandbad Plötzensee – another unsung hero of Berlin nightlife – they’re firing up the Lighthouse indoor venue with a youth DJ workshop followed by music ‘til midnight. Alternatively, if you want to experience the rare thrill of clubbing in Prenzlauer Berg, Jonny Knüppel will be opening up their industrial playground this Saturday (05.10) for a fundraiser night with a panel and DJ program. Finally, next Tuesday (08.10) the Body Language “femmes to the front” party series will be co-hosting a night at Holzmarktstrasse venue 90mil. On the agenda are vinyl workshops, crafts, dress up and dancing. Lots of dancing.
