A WORLD OF EXOTIC DRINKS AT JIGGER, BEAKER & GLASS

A WORLD OF EXOTIC DRINKS AT JIGGER, BEAKER & GLASS

Taking its name from the 1895 book by gastronomy writer Charles H. Baker, the cozy little venue of Jigger, Beaker & Glass opened up in March 2015. Walking in, you can see a copy of the bar’s namesake perched on a shelf above the counter, and owner Tony Galea explains that the book itself is as much of a traveling guide as a drinking handbook. However, the emphasis here at the bar is definitely on the drinks. The concept is simple, yet seldom done well; a cocktail bar with a genuinely laid-back atmosphere which doesn’t compromise on the high quality of the drinks. Faced with an utterly intriguing cocktail menu, I explained my taste preferences to the bartender and asked for his recommendation. I ended up with a very satisfying “Autumn Leaf”, an orange-based drink with gin and sherry. You can choose a perfect rendition of your classic favorite drink or can pick something more thrilling, such as the BBQ Old Fashioned with bacon-washed bourbon and cheddar on top. Curiosity will surely bring me back to try them all! (Text: Isabelle Kagelius / Photos: Daniel Farò)
