The relationship you have with the artworks in your own house is the most intimate – and rewarding – imaginable. Yet when it comes to buying, art auctions can seem like distant, exclusive affairs for non-collectors. The Weserhalle Online Art Auction starting this week is just the opposite, providing an open platform for local art that you don’t need a fortune to buy. The Neukölln gallery has curated a selection of works by 32 Berlin-based artists from 26 countries for the bidding, with a proportion of each sale going to the Weserhalle to help fund its program of art, discourse and culture. The selection – which can be viewed online and in person – includes works by Arthur Laidlaw, Johanna Dumet, Roberto Rivadeneira and Ivana de Vivanco.
