LENS-BASED SCULPTURES — PHOTOGRAPHY MEETS OBJECTS

LENS-BASED SCULPTURES — PHOTOGRAPHY MEETS OBJECTS

The new exhibition “Lens-Based Sculpture” takes a peek through the camera lens at the interplay between photography and sculpture with a new perspective. Curators examine the influence of photography on modern sculpture, sketching its historic development and exploring how images are connected to our understanding of plastic. The camera captures its environment, creates the moment and transforms space into mass and shape. Based on 200 works, the emancipation of sculpting is traced back to its origin as statues depicting the human body up to the time its position was consolidated as an independent artistic medium. It is a multimedia archive of various materials – included are works by: Marcel Duchamp, Umberto Boccioni, and Bruce Neumann. The show starts tomorrow (Fr 24.1.2013). (Text: Laura Storfner)
