Making climate change and global warming audible – sounds unimaginable, right? Wrong! The Berlin State Youth Orchestra will be doing just that for a concert next Tuesday (01.11.2022) that blends classical music with new sounds based on weather information. The musicians have taken data about sea level, precipitation, temperature and CO2 levels from the time the music was composed and used it to compose auditory motifs and harmonies. The performance is based on works by Jean-Féry Rebel, Joseph Haydn, Antonín Dvořák, Arthur Honegger and Moritz Eggert. This “data storytelling” comes courtesy of the designers, scientists and technical experts at sound collective kling klang klong. The concert journeys through 300 years of compositions that deal with human activity, nature and creation and recasts them with contemporary themes. With its blend of classical music and urgent issues, this is a musical evening with a message.
