I’m not a frequent restaurant visitor, but when I do dine out, I want it to be delicious and uncomplicated, and Luziidelivers on both fronts. When I first walked through the door, I was amazed. It’s a well-lit space, with reflections of the afternoon sun on the skillfully painted ceiling. Beautiful details invite you to scan the space, but the more you look, the more you see how uncomplicated and homey it is. The dark blue shelves in the back are stocked with homemade fermented foods. The bar in the middle of the room gives you the feeling of wanting to include everyone in the restaurant, the connecting piece of it all. Luzii is the perfect restaurant for anyone wanting to experience German cuisine with a modern, interesting touch. Each dish tastes familiar, sparking childhood memories. We began with the starter platter: pickles, sauerkraut, cheese, sausage, and homemade crisp bread. Every component complements the others. Next, we ordered the classic German Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes), but in a compact waffle form with a delicious apple paste and pickled radish on top. As the second main, we had Leipziger Allerlei and a wild broccoli salad, both impressing with their flavor. But the dessert was my favorite, because, well, it didn’t try to impress at all.
Strawberries with hazelnut, topped with dark chocolate. With each bite, you can taste the freshness of the seasonal and local ingredients from the restaurant’s garden in Brandenburg. Luzii was founded by Jonas Jost from Hamburg, who trained at the five-star Le Méridien Hotel and studied Hospitality Management in the Hague, where he met Teresa, who joined Jonas in hosting the restaurant. Luzii is the result of their passion for gastronomy, culture, hospitality, and simplicity. Luzii invites not only guests who crave the tastes of childhood, but people from all over the world who want to give German cuisine a try. In September, they’re hosting a pop-up at the Markthalle Pfefferberg, where they’ll serve their signature cordon bleu. It will offer a little taste of what’s waiting for you at Luzii.
