MARTIN BEHNKE RECOMMENDS: THEATRICAL PLAY “TELEMACHOS”

Where is Greece heading to? Will Europe’s cradle become EU’s sacrificial lamb? In “Telemachos: Should I stay or should I go” the directing duo Anestis Azas and Prodomos Tsinikoris tell the Greek-European catastrophe as the return of Odysseus’ wanderings. Using Greeks pending downfall as their backdrop, several Greek immigrants, emigrants and remigrants are speaking about their inner turmoil between home and outland, their resentments against the lost fight against a corrupt regime as well as their personal tales of greed, indignity and self-denial. The autobiographical descriptions are linked with Odysseus’ desperate seek for returning home and the protagonists’ hopeless longing for the resolution of the crisis. The soundtrack by a former Greek record store owner, Giannis Tsoukalas, and the noteworthy mosaic floor by set designers Lena Fay and Angela Konti bears and carries the stage’s quest.
