Until a couple of years back, Hamburg was this country’s capital of indie beverage companies. We still like their colas & co but Berlin is quickly catching up. Right now Club Mate, made in the South of Germany, is still the unofficial drink of Berlin, but Hotel Michelberger’s crew is busy working on replacing old favorites. Last year their “Booze” collection made a debut, a duo of herbal schnapps developed with their partner Preussische Spirituosen-Manufaktur in Berlin-Wedding. Exclusively made on premises and sold in beautifully illustrated bottles, both flavors are intense and unique, making them great additions to your mini bar (check out the website and order here). The Michelberger team has also canned fresh coconut water named “Fountain of Youth”, a perfect summer refreshment. We’re still missing a decent Berlin cola but I’m sure it will come around soon.
