Torstraße welcomed a charming new corner store in September 2024: Sant Buena. This unique spot combines market, store and café under one roof. The story behind Sant Buena begins with its three founders, Lisa, Sophia and Tom, who launched their first venture, Flatmakers, in 2021. If you’ve strolled down Torstraße recently, you may have noticed Sant Buena. Its eye-catching display of vibrant flowers invites passersby to add a splash of color to their homes. When the neighboring store became vacant, the founders couldn’t resist the opportunity. Their passion for creating a space to support local brands and young entrepreneurs was too compelling. At Sant Buena, you’ll find a lovingly curated collection of stylish kitchenware, fine delicacies, cookbooks and a rotating selection of seasonal goods — think festive Christmas tree ornaments. In the café, unwind with a cup of coffee from Sincerely Coffee (you can buy their beans in-store) or a glass of freshly pressed juice. Cozy sofas and bookshelves of international publications entice you to linger a little longer. The culinary offerings are just as delightful. Fresh bread and pastries from Albatross pair perfectly with homemade cakes at the counter. The menu strikes a balance between comforting and creative, with options like chia bowls, fresh waffles and the ever-popular avocado toast.
My personal favorite? The “Egg Soldiers” — two soft-boiled eggs served with strips of toast for dipping. They transport me back to childhood, evoking memories of my mother’s last-minute dinners. On Saturdays, Sant Buena transforms into a bustling neighborhood hub, where the store and café brim with energy. This is more than just a fleeting trend, Sant Buena aims to be a timeless café where visitors feel at home and where the simple is elevated to something extraordinary. Interestingly, the owners have only shared the store’s logo on Instagram to date. They’re waiting until every detail feels just right before unveiling the interior to the digital world — a refreshing approach in an era dominated by “Instagrammable” spaces. Good news for last-minute shoppers: Sant Buena will remain open between the holidays, making it the perfect spot for picking up thoughtful gifts.
