ART, DESIGN, CITY ESCAPES — YOUR WEEKEND STARTS HERE

ART, DESIGN, CITY ESCAPES — YOUR WEEKEND STARTS HERE

The weekend is here, and with it, autumn, perhaps the most beautiful season in the city. When everything is possible, but nothing is a must. It’s clear we’ll be spending more time indoors in the coming months. If you’re looking for something nice for your home, head to the opening (25.09.) of the foldt pop-up store on Savignyplatz tonight. Starting at 19h, there will be new designs to discover, including at least one kitchen — gleaming, angular, wonderfully contemporary, and somehow nostalgically futuristic all at once. Visually, it’s worth the trip, but so is the culinary program: Ayami Awazuharawill provide Japanese snacks, and Nature is Calling will serve wine. If you’d rather wait until tomorrow for drinks and openings, C/O Berlin offers the perfect occasion. Its exhibition openings have been legendary for more than a decade. On Friday (26.09), Close Enough – Perspectives by Women Photographers of Magnum opens. The images alone make this an event not to miss.

Continue exploring the art scene on Saturday (27.09.) and catch the aftershocks of Art Week. Frank Hauschildt has curated a wonderfully intimate group exhibition at the Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, featuring artists connected to the location in one way or another. The works of Olga Hohmann, Thomas Kratz, and Heimo Zobernig’s tiger costume are absolute highlights. If that’s not enough, head to the Schinkel Pavilion for zeitgeisty works by Issy Wood. Prefer to get out of the city? At Umbio’s cider festival in Grünheide in the Uckermark, there’s not only cider and fresh-pressed juice but also wild bratwurst from the grill and a charming little farm shop. If you’ve always wanted to know which variety is growing in your allotment, bring your apples along, to be identified on the spot. In the evening, poets Rim Battal and Odile Kennel will meet at Ich mache mein Bett und ich salze mein Fleisch (I Make My Bed and I Salt My Meat) for a German-French reading exploring physicality, desire, and female writing. The evening is part of the closing event of the exhibition Breaking this Silence at the Institut Français, which presents artistic and activist contributions deconstructing myths and patriarchal narratives around endometriosis. Spend Sunday (28.09.) in bed with Mubi, or at Zeughaus Kino at 18h for a screening of the 1996 film “The Portrait of a Lady“, starring a captivating Nicole Kidman. And that’s a wrap for this weekend. But the next one will come soon. On Saturday (04.10), the next edition of the pop-up food & illustrationconcept takes place — art, cooking, and a little cake from Daun Daun and Kenn Lamm on Kollwitzstraße. Reservations can be made via DM, and places are in high demand.
