INVENTIVE COCKTAILS WITH FAMILY SPIRIT AT SOHNEMANN — RECOMMENDED BY WILL GLUCKIN

INVENTIVE COCKTAILS WITH FAMILY SPIRIT AT SOHNEMANN — RECOMMENDED BY WILL GLUCKIN

In the inter-kiez war to capture Berlin’s attention with exciting new bars, Friedrichshain has taken a backseat lately. Enter Sohnemann, a new watering hole just north of the madness of Simon-Dach-Straße. At the helm, and often behind the bar, is Sam: a born-and-bred Friedrichshainer with a deft, physical approach to mixology. Everything in the place bears Sam’s fingerprints, from the wood-and-black-tile interior to the well-matched playlist of smoked-out jazz and gently pulsing electronica. At the crux of it all lies the imaginative drinks list, with the F-Hain Spritz – a gin-and-lime refreshment with notes of ginger and hibiscus – a personal favorite. For Sam, Sohnemann is a family affair: the Opa Willi and Tante Käthe cocktails are inspired by childhood memories of relatives, while the shelves are stocked with bottles he was tipped off about by his friends. The liqueurs and syrups used for the drinks are often homemade, as is the bathtub gin. New drinks are being added all the time, so stop by and be surprised!
