Before summer tips over into autumn, it’s pulling us out of the city one more time. One last bike ride to the lake, one last picnic, one last afternoon sitting jacket-free in the garden. The art venues around Berlin are pulling out all the stops this weekend too, giving the finest season of the year the send-off it deserves.
A few kilometers northwest of Berlin, right in the heart of Oberhavelland, sits Schlossgut Schwante — worth the trip for its sculpture garden alone. This Saturday (29.08.2026), artist Kasia Fudakowski and chef Ayami Awazuhara are hosting an evening for the Art & Food series. They’re crafting a dinner that brings together the best of art and cuisine. Awazuhara, who also studied art, sees cooking as a collective, performative experience. Here at the Schlossgut, that becomes a culinary art moment unfolding across several stations throughout the park, complete with a concert by Savannah Hauskeller and a specially composed menu. As a keepsake, each of the thirty guests takes home a one-of-a-kind edition piece by Kasia Fudakowski.
The next morning, we move on a few towns further to Sound Biesenthal at the Wehrmühle, a privately run exhibition house in the Biesenthal Basin nature park. There, on Sunday (30.08.), the show curated by Domenico Positano and Tjioe Meyer Hecken, featuring works by Isa Genzken, Ceal Floyer, and Rebecca Horn, comes to a close. At Sunday’s closing event, composer Liam Gordon takes over from 18hr for the season’s final sound performance. From Biesenthal, it’s just under 50 kilometers to Lake Kalksee in Woltersdorf, where the lock is also home to plenty of music.
Here, graphic designer Thomas Müller and illustrator Frank Diersch run a project space along with their own radio station. This year, they’ve expanded their Studio für Radio + Grafik, or STRG for short, with an additional room: Studio IInow hosts regular exhibitions. While sound artist and sculptor Jana Debrodt makes sound traces visible at STRG on Sunday from 15hr, photographers Nora Lina Merten and Kathleen Pracht, aka Fountains, open their show Porous next door at the same time. The two met while studying at Lette Verein. Since then, they’ve been developing a shared visual language that moves between the natural and the artificial — found and staged still lifes that suggest rather than document. As if they’d captured the fleeting feeling of late summer in images.
