Just leaving your home for a little bit – who isn’t up for it after the last two years? And who isn’t up for leaving the city – as much as we do love her – behind for a little bit – alongside all the traffic and temptations, too. I, for one, am dreaming of it from time to time. Dreaming of a moment where nothing is getting on my nerves and I can finally read that book I’ve been meaning to get to. But where to find that tranquil hut nearby where I can shut out the world? Thanks to Christopher Eilers, Johann Ahlers and Julian Trautwein, it’s fairly easy now. They know well what the modern city dweller wants – one of them being an ex AirBnB-employee – and have created the perfect concept: Raus. You can book a tiny house online, receive the exact coordinates upon confirmation and in under two hours, you’re out there. And afterwards, you’re free to leave without having to take care of the cleaning. The escaping side of things is quick, but to find pure rest and relaxation? That’s on you. Luckily, these lovely huts make it easy to feel right at home (and away).
The tiny black houses are not just simple huts as we know them, they’re nicely designed mini homes made for us, the spoiled inner city people. You’ll find yourself spending a lot of time in bed thanks to the white bed linen and large windows that open up the view to the nature around you. The small yet functional kitchen offers gas for cooking, a fridge and hip coffee makers, not to mention the handmade ceramics. Your dishes will look so pretty, you’ll want to take a snapshot for social media – but wait – you’re here to escape the outside for a little bit, right? How about a walk in nature instead, or sitting on the veranda just gazing… For me the concept of Raus works well: I don’t have to pretend to be a trapper, it’s pretty convenient here with electricity, the shower and so on. It scales everything back to the simple things with well-functioning amenities that make you realize that all we really need is to appreciate the small, overlooked things in life. This can make you feel alone (or a little lonely even) once the sun sets, but there’s lots of stars to look out for and eventually when you get up with a cup of steaming tea and stand in the damp grass in the early morning, the world at large is none of your business today… I miss that feeling already and will be back soon.
P.S.: Unfortunately, you have to enroll in the waitlist at the moment, but watch on IG to snatch some rare spots that pop up occasionally. And let’s all hope the Raus team will open some more tiny houses soon.
