RENDEZVOUS AT MIDNIGHT: VIDEOART AT THE CINEMA

Lights off, curtain raised, a spotlight on. Videoart at Midnight. Once a month on Fridays at midnight, gallerist Olaf Stüber and collector Ivo Wessel invite you to a cinematic rendezvous at Babylon Mitte. They present video art by film makers and artists such as Douglas Gordon and Armin Linke. The series will be celebrating its fifth birthday this Friday with the evening’s guest Hito Steyerl and her project “How Not To Be Seen. A Fucking Didactic Educational.Mov File“ that premiered at the Biennale this year. The work showcases Steyerl’s attempt to slur our digital traces and outsmart the overall surveillance. Set between the Californian sun and Google Earth, her tutorial gives functional examples for finding a hiding place as well as absurd strategies, like becoming a superhero. The screening’s after party will be super too, so come to Café Luxemburg for a toast and join the festivity. (Text: Laura Storfner)
