On the lookout for unique, heartfelt Christmas cards? Schön Schreiben cards, featuring beautiful calligraphy, are just the thing for your loved ones this year. Founder Ruth is a passionate calligraphist and runs a small workshop making literature-inspired cards with her daughter, art graduate Paulina. They have spent years gathering quotes from books, films, plays, exhibitions, operas, songs and conversations, amassing a collection of more than 2000 text fragments. Combining this with their old, deep love for letters, the pair create postcards with every possible mood and meaning: from ancient Greek literature to contemporary culture and everything in between, the cards can be life-affirming, sarcastic, provocative, pessimistic or just plain silly – for Ruth the main thing is that the message has an impact on the recipient. She makes every single card herself, using watercolor and a steel nib to create letter-like artworks. What began as private correspondence between mother and daughter in Munich gained in popularity, and now the cards can be found in diverse shops all over Germany.
