IS THIS SEAT TAKEN? CC’S CALENDAR TIPS BETWEEN VINYL & ART

The seat to my left is empty! This week, an unusual amount is happening around tables. Long ones, improvised ones, laid tables and tables not yet set. So pull up a chair for CC’s Calendar tips. At Kunstraum Kreuzberg, several tables are lined up at once. Starting today, from 23.04. to 25.04., Schlechte Mutter takes a closer look at theater maker and educator Asja Lācis, who is known for her politically engaged workers’ theater. It also centers on a play by Latvian author Inga Gaile on motherhood and the expectations attached to it. What emerges is a program of workshops, readings and performances that asks how artistic practice, care work and political engagement can be brought together. The performance format also extends into the urban space. Admission is free, the workshops are open to everyone, and registering in advance is recommended. Rough and delicate meet on the table at Another June, where Ettina Blaison’s exhibition opens from 23.04. to 30.05. On view are ceramic objects with deliberately rough, grog-rich surfaces alongside delicate drawings. Blaison’s background in fashion design continues to shape her work through proportion, construction and materiality, while Berlin in the 1980s and 1990s informs her visual language. The next table is a workbench. On Friday (24.04.), there is a small but celebratory moment in Mitte. Click & Surr marks its season opening on Gartenstraße. The focus is on the new photo lab and a camera workshop concept, with drinks, short tours through the space, and giveaways.

Stop by and take a look. This table is a little farther out. For Orchard Meadow Day, the best route is by regional train to Umbio in the Uckermark. On Saturday (24.04.), take a path through apple blossoms and past more than 100 old varieties in orchard meadows considered especially biodiverse habitats. Along with a farm tour, there’ll be information on community-supported agriculture for anyone thinking about joining the Solawi. Back in Berlin, the table becomes more of a cove wall. Female Photo Days, from 24.04. to 25.04., warmly invite visitors to workshops, photo walks and live shoots, organized in part by the Bell Collective. The focus is on exploring and celebrating female and non-binary perspectives in photography. On Friday, 25.04., the exhibition of the she/her/us competition also opens. You won’t find a better seat at the table than this one: Tablefarrah and Joon Bistrot invite guests to Mezze, Aperó and Wine in the Großen Garten on Saturday (25.04). Expect Mediterranean Levantine mezze made for sharing, plus wine, a quiet garden, and hopefully a few hours of sunshine. Move closer and start stitching. The Quilting Project with Buki Akomolafe on 25.04. is part of the exhibition Diaspora Wonderland at the ifa Gallery. Under the title “Stitching Stories Together”, participants will create a quilt collectively. Akomolafe offers insights into her practice and invites people to bring fabrics of their own, especially ones that carry a personal story. Materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed. This table is more than just a tabletop. On Sunday (26.04.), a new vinyl market launches at Arkaoda. It’s planned as a recurring format with changing dealers, labels and collectives, as well as workshops and conversations around record culture in the city. There will be live DJs and food — admission is free. Also on Sunday (26.04.), the exhibition Radar Traps by Andreas Slominski opens at the haubrok foundation, as always with free access. Slominski’s works often move between absurd everyday objects, traps and shifts in function, and they fit this setting surprisingly well. For something warm on the table, head to Geist im Glason Sunday (26.04). Chris Paxton of Lucky You Studios is hosting an udon noodle pop-up called Spring Chicken. On the menu are handmade udon noodles in chicken broth with wild garlic chashu, egg, and spring vegetables, plus a spicy vegan version. Walk-ins only, until sold out. A quieter table leads into the new week. On Monday (27.04.) Haus für Poesie presents readings of texts by Tove Ditlevsen. The Danish author’s poetry speaks in a clear, often unsparing voice about class, dependency, writing and psychological depths. On stage are Mette Moestrup, Lea Schneider and Peter Urban-Halle. The evening will be hosted by Maike Albath, with Danish to German interpretation. Pull up a chair.
