In 2012 AJLart started out as a kind of nomadic gallery. Since last year they finally settled down at their new home, “The Door” (Die Tür), as the gallery owner Anna Jill Lüpertz likes to call it. In the city’s most beautiful backyard, an exhibition featuring works of Ian Hamilton Finlay, Robert Montgomery and Lawrence Weiner will be on show starting tomorrow. While Finlay became known as a poet, Weiner considers himself and his large-scale works as sculptures of language. We encounter Montgomery’s billboards and neon installations as a temporary intervention in public spaces, most recently for example at the Holzmarkt-Gelände. His works regard text as poetic and political stock-taking. For three generations, these artists have been uniting their approach on transferring the medium of language as a volatile, semiotic and aesthetic concept into a permanent and present state. Viewers are invited to engage in dialogue, literally. (Text: Laura Storfner / Images: Robert Montgomery (left), Lawrence Weiner (top right), Ian Hamilton Finlay (bottom right))
