August is rushing off with warm croissants, beloved portafilters, blazing spaces for discourse, fiery drinks, and cold love. Today (27.08.) things get spicy at Café Schroeder: at the second Spicy Margarita & Taco Night, street food, music, and drinks get shaken and stirred. From the afternoon, there are tacos to share, alongside spicy margaritas, wine, and bubbles. Music, of course, comes with the territory. The tacos stay until they’re gone. If you’ve ever wanted to see the inside of your espresso machine, Friday (28.08.) is your moment at the La Marzocco Sommerfest. There’s a barbecue at the Berlin Service Center. With a cold drink in hand, dive deeper into the world of service and technology. And with a bit of luck, you might even win a service package for your own home or bar machine.
Things are brewing at the Alte Feuerwache THF too: in the former works fire station at Tempelhof Airport, Infra(Structures) is opening a new space for art and discourse. At its center are the structures that carry our everyday lives, even though we don’t usually notice them until they fail — along with the question of whether culture itself might be a form of infrastructure. At Friday’s (28.08.) opening, Lorenzo Mena, Saeko Killy, and Oraculu will be playing. Or how about getting out of the city instead? At the Full Moon Open Ground with PlantAge, this weekend is all about good food, community, and an experiment in living together out in nature.
Alongside food, drinks, and plenty of conversation, there are workshops, improv theater, a moonlit walk, and hours by the campfire ahead of you. Especially small (and therefore quick to fill up) is Saturday’s clay workshop, with just twelve spots available. Our Croissant Session No. 08 heads to The Space on Kurfürstendamm on Saturday ( 29.08.), where the last day of the Monochrome by Oatly pop-up will be celebrated. Expect matcha, croissants, and music from DJ Gachi. By evening at the latest, everyone gathers to eat together again. At the open-air pop-up at Onette, Chris Paxton and Leo Baumgärtnerare serving a sharing menu built around seasonal, regional ingredients, ferments, and foraged foods on Saturday (29.08.). Three starters, two mains, and a dessert are on the table. A good excuse to finally open a bottle of natural wine. Reservations required!
If you’re in the mood for movement and new faces on Saturday (29.08.), Common Ground lets you switch between the mat and a summer drink. Float and Afair are bringing their communities together, first for an open class, then for drinks and a small market featuring products from the wellness and fitness world. Entry comes with a drink and some goodies. For a different perspective, head to Safelight on Saturday (29.08.) for End of Summer. Photos were submitted from all kinds of Berlin summers, and the twenty most-voted images are now on display. What’s nice about it is the pictures tell the story of summer as it’s actually lived, not the glossy travel-feed version. Bites from Gyoza to Sake round things out.
But now, off to France. At Fork, the table is being set invitingly on Saturday (29.08.). The project brings together design, storytelling, and food into shared dinner concepts, and this time the inspiration is a four-month stay in France. What lands on the plate is a four-course menu with French flavors and Mexican influences, paired with drinks from Patrón, music, and maybe a few new acquaintances. At Block1, Saturday is about solidarity. The fundraiser event for earthquake relief in Venezuela is collecting donations for Impaktemos and Somos Nexos VE. There will be fresh arepas (round corn flatbreads), clothing and jewelry on sale, and open decks running into the early morning hours.
On the last Sunday of August (30.08.), The Rad is throwing a small send-off to summer. Sakana is hosting its final Fishing Party of the season, with freshly caught fish and summery wines. At the same time (30.08.), things get splashy to a beat at Sommerbad Neukölln. The Electronic Pool Session brings together I Hate Models, Clara Cuvé, and Kalte Liebe. Between the pool and hoped-for summer heat, pounding techno, EBM, and dark wave all mix. Clara Cuvé promises sets full of surprising turns, I Hate Models maximum forward drive, and Kalte Liebe contributes raw, distorted vocals. One more chance to break a sweat!
