Summer is winding down, but heading where, exactly? There’s still plenty of time for lounging on terraces, going on material-focused excursions, dancing under a cloudless sky, and doing some proper tufting. Plus there are churros, crêpes, and soft-serve ice cream. Here are CC’s calendar tips for a sweet late summer.
Tonight (20.08.) kicks off with clear views and good sound at the terrace of the Neue Nationalgalerie for Unclouded. Until late evening, rare Japanese teas from Tea Circadian will join electronic sounds from Sound Metaphors and H.A.N.D. HiFi. With a bit of luck, there’ll be a sunset to top it all off.
You can also find your electronic happy place at Hamburger Bahnhof at “Berlin Beats” tonight (20.08.), Regis and Liam Andrews team up before later handing over to Sandwell District. Regis has run the label Downwards since 1993 and is one of the defining figures of British techno; Andrews has been active in experimental post-punk for two decades. Sandwell District, Regis’s duo with Function, made a comeback in 2025 after more than ten years. So, three hours of open air in the museum garden, and free admission. Things head a bit further out starting Friday (21.08.).
At Werkhaus Stöckle, about an hour north of Berlin and right on a lake, a ten-day workshop on stone and glass begins. Between stone carving and the hot shop, there’s room for experimentation. The group is supported by, among others, Viviane Stroede on glass and Tobias Silvotti on stone, with cooking handled throughout the workshop by Claire Kubler of Studio Magenta. Materials, accommodation, and meals are included, and the group stays deliberately small and cozy, with six to eight participants. Back in the city, your best bet is to head straight for the water. On Friday (21.08.), Bite Club at the Arena (and at Badeschiff) brings quite a spread to the table: crispy Chinese crêpes with egg and fresh toppings, Mexican chilaquiles with homemade salsas, and handmade Argentine alfajores (cookies filled with dulce de leche). And for a sweet finish, there are churros or fruity soft-serve from Serve. Three pretty good reasons to head to the Spree hungry.
Or instead, head to the African Food Festival (21–23.08.), celebrating its tenth anniversary at Jules B-Part with African cuisine, vegan and fusion offerings, African-inspired ice cream, and more than 50 Black-owned businesses. On Saturday (22.08.), the festival flows into an afterparty at Ayoka with Afrobeats, Amapiano, and R&B. Festival-goers pay reduced admission and can keep dancing both indoors and out. Also on Saturday (22.08.), Dyke* Festival Berlin (22–23.08.) throws a lot into the mix: panels, performances, drag, DJs, and workshops meet food, glitter, an exhibition, and plenty of space to linger. Anyone needing a break in between will find a Calm Awareness Room, and even a Cuddle Room in the basement. Workshops and activities are first come, first served, so it pays to show up early. Things stay close-knit at RAW-Gelände, with a free open-air event on Saturday (22.08.) at Cassiopeia’s Sommergarten.
Put together by Schmeckt auf Eis and 44 Hertz, eight acts share the decks from noon until 20h. Among them are Dydaa Forne and Maria Theresia Voneberg. Donations are welcome, comfortable shoes too. On Sunday (23.08.), your closet could get a little lighter. Or yellower? Yellow Yoga invites you to a free clothes swap & potluck at Studio Berg. Up to five items can be swapped there, and you’re welcome to bring something homemade for the potluck. And not just seasoned yogis but newcomers are explicitly welcome too! Meanwhile, at Strom, late summer gets wrung out down to the last drop. On Sunday (23.08.), Terrasse Totale brings together coffee from Nano Kaffee, ice cream from Earlybird Gelato, and hot dogs from Dons Delicatessen, plus wine from Drops Contemporary Wines. There’s plenty of everything, until there isn’t anymore.
And since next Tuesday (25.08.) is a great day for some proper tufting, here’s a recommendation: Textile Tuesdays kicks off at artist Lillian Morrissey‘s studio in Lichtenberg. It’s a relaxed, hands-on textile session — tufting, punch needle, embroidery, sewing, or dyeing, anything goes. You can bring your own materials and ideas. On site, you’ll find a tufting gun, sewing machine, and embroidery hoops, among other things. Only four spots are available per session, to leave enough room for individual guidance and for some sweet creations!
