From deepfakes and algorithms to ransomware and radicalization, you’ve probably heard of how tech is making things worse. Yet when used correctly, digital tools can help jump start a more progressive future – or so the organizers of reCampaign hope. The two-day conference at Silent Green is inviting over 300 activists, thinkers and data heads to present new ways of rebooting society (20 & 21.09.2024). Under the banner “Progressive Alliances”, the program includes workshops, round tables and labs, including the “TikTok Campaigning School”, a session for learning how to leverage the platform’s algorithms to spread messages and engage audiences (20.09).
Over at the podium is the round table discussion “The Playbook of Authoritarian Regimes”, exploring how autocratic governments manipulate the media to entrench their power and divide society – and how independent journalism can fight back (20.09). Just as relevant is “Artificial Intelligence for Everyone”, a group session run by the Wikimedia foundation that explores the technologies, opportunities, and ethical limits of AI in real-world applications (21.09).
