The work of German artist Tina Winkhaus is alluring and unapologetic in equal measure. Whether her lens is turned to wild animals, floral arrangements or celebrity lookalikes, her striking images subvert the divide between private and public, artistic and commercial. Now, in time for Berlin Art Week, Winkhaus has joined forces with Bikini Berlin to create a work you can experience from the inside. On the concept shopping mall’s second floor, you’re invited to step inside what appears to be a mirrored hotel room — an immersive sound and video installation that blurs the boundaries of both the space itself and your perception of it. Here, in the midst of chirping birds and flapping wings, the viewer becomes one with the environment, the concrete jungle blurs with luscious forests, and the outside comes in. What’s it all about?
