JOHANENLIES: MINIMAL DESIGN MEETS SUSTAINABLE FURNITURE

Elevating the aesthetic standard for “upcycled” furniture with its purist design philosophy, industrial style and a refined approach to tactility is Johanenlies, a Berlin furniture maker with Dutch roots. Run by Mike Raaijmakers and Coco Prange, partners in work and life, Johanenlies repurposes salvaged wood into sleek furniture, from beds to side tables: all handmade in collaboration with joineries in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommen. Now you can experience the range for yourself in their stylish Mulackstraße showroom, which opened in March 2017. Alongside furniture, the store offers hand-picked interior accessories such as Klaas Kuiken & Dieter Volkers’ lamps made from recycled thermoses. The dusky pink or navy walls double as a rotating gallery space: Currently on show is the photography of Veronika Natter. And to top it all off, from next week, third-wave coffee darlings Fenster are opening an in-store café. (Text & Photos: Anna Dorothea Ker)
