ULYSSES AT DEUTSCHES THEATER: A MASTERPIECE COMES TO LIFE

ULYSSES AT DEUTSCHES THEATER: A MASTERPIECE COMES TO LIFE

Who has actually read Ulysses by James Joyce in its entirety? The one-thousand-page classic work of modern literature will be brought to life as a four-hour play at Deutsches Theater at the end of January. The novel’s subject matter challenges the reader’s attention with its unstoppable stream of consciousness narration. Directed by Sebastian Hartmann, the project was developed in close cooperation with the ensemble. Ten actors will use their bodies and voices as mediums to depict the polyphonic cosmos of the work, set in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century, supplemented by subtitles in English. The result: a poetic stage version of the complex novel. Even 100 years later, Ulysses still serves as an inspiration for life in an unmanageable world. The play premieres on 19.1 and you’ll have the chance to catch the performance through the beginning of June. It is a production that will be enjoyed by all, even by those who might not have read Ulysses (completely) but want to spend a moving and stimulating evening at the theatre.
