It happened almost simultaneously. We moved to Graefekiez and Hannes Mitterhofer opened his Wirtshaus in Fichtestrasse. It only took a few months for the host to become famous throughout the neighborhood and gain many regulars at his Wirtshaus. The cozy interior decorated with deer antlers and the proper and heartwarming food from South Tyrol definitely helped to tide us over the cold Berlin winter. Guests can dine outside on the wide sidewalk when warm, facing the beautiful façades and the old gasometer. We love their goat cheese salad, Andechser beer and Tris (a variation of three dumplings made of porcini, spinach and cheese), though their Wiener Schnitzel is being lauded by many guests; and don’t miss out on their excellent asparagus risotto before the season is over. You might get to know Hannes himself as well, who is always up for a little chat, even when the place is packed!
