BEBE REBOZO – GOOD ‘NUFF FOR NIXON, GOOD ‘NUFF FOR ME

“Zack, who’s Bebe Rebozo?” John Lurie’s question was never answered by Tom Waits in the film “Down by Law”; likewise for many viewers, the name remained a mystery in a time before Google. In Robert Strasser’s case, he found out a decade later while reading his obituary in New York. Who is Robert Strasser you might ask? He’s the owner of the one-of-a-kind steak & oyster restaurant in Moabit called, that’s right, “Bebe Rebozo”. Located on perhaps one of the deadest streets in Berlin, this secret hideaway offers an amazingly concise menu: oysters, ceviches, one choice of salad and steaks. You can actually feast on everything in one night… and feast we did. The food was so good that it made us wonder if we were high! (we were not, of course) The Argentinian filet, tender and buttery at first and ending with an oomph, was absolutely perfect. Even the Caeser salad and fries on the side were divine, not to mention the seafood and wine. The whole experience was so enchanting that I keep thinking that the next time I go there it will have vanished. Simply put, I loved everything about this place. Dear reader, I really had to fight the urge to keep this place Berlin’s best-kept secret!
