LORENA SIMMEL RECOMMENDS: NEW THEATRE BY STILL DRAMA

This Saturday (22.10.2016), Still Drama launches its new book series of theater writings, with a launch party in Berlin. The books’ format vaguely recalls of the classic by Reclam; the content though, is unquestionably contemporary. The works “Schere Faust Papier” (Scissors, Fist, Paper) by Michel Decar and “Emma” by Martin Fritz (both authors are under the age of 35; both plays were written in the last year) make for profound and entertaining reads. Selected through an open call, the two works have been released as a double feature: The book has two covers, with the words of the two plays running into each other on paper. Behind the series is Marc Holzenbecher, publisher of Berlin- and Brooklyn-based Still Magazine, which combines new literature with artistic photography in high-end print editions. To celebrate the release of the first issue of Still Drama, the actors Esther Hilsemer, Gro Swantje Kohlhof, and Nicolas Lehni are presenting the writings alongside theater musician Sebastian Jurchen in two staged readings. Drinks and, of course, the book, fresh from the press, are also on the menu. If you happen to miss the event, Michel Decar’s play will premier this December at Thalia Theater in Hamburg. (Text: Lorena Simmel)
