FECHTNER — WHOLESOME SALADS THAT EMBRACE THE SEASONS

FECHTNER — WHOLESOME SALADS THAT EMBRACE THE SEASONS

It’s easy to imagine that the space now occupied by Fechtner was once a design shop: Its pared-down, high-ceiling interior has something remarkably soothing to it that doesn’t entirely line up with its spot on Torstraße. Lunch is just the time to visit, where hearty salad bowls with a base of greens come topped with crisp asparagus spears and grilled sweet potato, lovingly strewn with goat cheese and your dressing of choice—though cranberry is highly recommended. Owners Tabea Meyer and Tobias Vetter have a serious dedication to the food they put out, demonstrated in their ties to nearby suppliers: rich dark bread from Zeit Für Brot; olive oil from Oel Berlin; the coffee an in-house blend; water filtered with Leogant systems. Fechtner opened late this summer, but being seasonally on-point, the pumpkin soup arrives pulpy and warm, topped with crunchy cubes of fried bread, crispy sage, and pomegranate. A side of Anti-Inflammatory juice, made with lemon, ginger, fennel, and turmeric, will wash away the inkling of a cold; while the Detox juice, a blend of beetroot, ginger, and cinnamon, brings one more comforting word to mind: Christmas.
