NOÉMIE CAUSSE RECOMMENDS: SARDINEN BAR

NOÉMIE CAUSSE RECOMMENDS: SARDINEN BAR

If you’ve been to Portugal, you might be familiar with the concept of a sardine bar, where fresh fish and other seafood arrive on your plate straight out of a tin. Some slices of bread and a glass of wine – so easy, so good. Owner Thomas Vetter was inspired to run with the idea while on holiday, where he fell in love with the simplicity of tinned delights. While being the first of its kind in Germany, the Sardinen Bar offers over 100 delicacies from Brittany, Portugal, and Spain. From sardines in olive oil, to ones prepared with tomatoes and Bayonne ham, or in white wine instead of oil. You’ll also find smoked and spiced mackerel, seasonal salads, and matching wines. If fish is not your thing, then you will appreciate the selection of charcuterie and cheese. Here, retro, rough, and new influences come together, incorporating plenty of wood into the design with colorful tins decorating the walls. Even with the dreary Berlin weather, these fishy delights will transport you to the sunny coast of Lisbon or Porto. (Text: Noémie Causse / Photos: Marla Studio)
